15 Dec 2006 - Eileen

Grange Community Junior School, Farnborough combined laughter and sadness today as they said a fond farewell to a member of the kitchen staff who had served 29 years at the school.

Eileen Nash had worked at the school since 1977 when the school was on its original site and then moved across to the new building when the school was rebuilt. In a rough calculation, the school believe she may well have helped serve in excess of 500,000 school dinners in that time which means having cleaned over 1.5 million pieces of cutlery!!

Headteacher Carole Wareham said, when addressing the children and staff at the special celebration Assembly,
?Today we celebrate a very special day as Eileen is leaving the school kitchen after 29 years. She is very lucky as she doesn?t have to get up on Monday morning because she can stay in bed as she is retiring!?

Eileen was presented with a special gift from the staff of the school. In response to her retirement, Eileen said:
?I?m glad it?s Friday!? (Her usual Manta!) Then she went on to say,
?I have enjoyed very much working with Di over and Sue, who have worked with me for many, many years. We are like an inseparable team! Most of all, apart from not having to be in early in the morning, chopping up the salad and preparing the potatoes, I shall miss the kids!?
